She gained fame and relevance through her vibrant and active presence on platforms like Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram, notably for her “Bobrisky” dance that went viral on TikTok in 2021. Bobrisky who is a University of Lagos accounting graduate, began cross-dressing in college and has so far built a business empire selling skin-lightening creams, makeup, and fashion products.

Her entrepreneurial ventures, including beauty therapy and event appearances, have contributed to an estimated net worth of over $500,000 as of 2025.

Though her stance on queerness has been inconsistent, sparking debate within and outside the community.

In April 2024, Bobrisky was arrested and sentenced to six months in prison for “naira abuse” after spraying money at a film premiere, an act deemed illegal under Nigeria’s Central Bank Act.

She judiciously served her term but faced allegations of bribing officials to drop money laundering charges, which she denied.

A leaked audio, shared by social media influencer VeryDarkMan, claimed she paid $9,000 to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and served part of her sentence in a private apartment, though investigations by a government panel found no evidence she slept outside prison.

She was released in August 2024 but faced further scrutiny, including an arrest in October 2024 at the Seme border while allegedly attempting to flee Nigeria.

A high court dismissed her fundamental rights suit against the EFCC.

Bobrisky’s visibility has made her a cultural icon. Some, like activist Matthew Blaise, view her as a symbol of queer resistance, while others, including conservative figures like Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, call her a “national disgrace.”
