Mikel urges Chelsea to sign Victor Osimhen
Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi said he would be disappointed if the Blues fail to secure the signing of Victor Osimhen this summer.
The 26-year-old striker has long been on Chelsea’s radar, but the club’s pursuit was stalled last summer due to concerns over his wage demands.
Mikel, who has previously expressed his interest in the Nigerian forward joining the club, believes it would be a grave mistake for Chelsea to let Osimhen slip away. With the striker’s goalscoring prowess and potential to bolster Chelsea’s attack, Mikel sees him as a key addition to the squad and one that could help the Blues return to their former glory.
“Listen, it will be really sad if we don’t get a player who supported us as a kid and wants to play for this Football Club,” Mikel said on the Obione podcast.
Mikel emphasised that Osimhen’s admiration for Chelsea legend Didier Drogba could serve as a powerful motivation for the striker to join the club.
“His idol is Drogba, he will want to break records, win us trophies, get us back to the top, come for Drogba’s records,” Mikel added.
Although Chelsea may not be targeting Osimhen this summer, Mikel believes the club still has the opportunity to revisit their interest and successfully sign him.
“If the club chose not to pursue it.. then well fair enough, good luck to them, but the good thing about it is we know where we left it, we can literally pick the phone up and get him straight in the door,” Mikel concluded.
