Trump Plans New Travel Ban: Iran, Syria, Somalia Among Targeted Countries

Former U.S. President Donald Trump is back in the headlines, and this time, he’s reviving one of his most controversial policies. At a recent rally, Trump announced plans to introduce new travel restrictions on several countries, claiming the move is all about national security.

In his words, it’s about “protecting Americans from foreign threats.” But critics say it’s the same old travel ban under a new name.

Trump’s New Travel Ban

So, what’s the plan?

Trump says he wants to block or limit entry to the U.S. for people coming from countries he calls “high-risk.” That includes places like Iran, Syria, Somalia, Libya, Yemen, North Korea, and Afghanistan. Insiders say Pakistan and Venezuela might be added to the list, too.

If it sounds familiar, that’s because it is. Back in 2017, Trump issued a similar ban that sparked protests across the country and was challenged all the way to the Supreme Court. This new version would be even stricter—with longer visa delays, extra screening, and possibly even bans on student and work visas from certain countries.

Trump told supporters, “We’re not going to let people into our country who hate us or want to do us harm.” His team insists this is about safety, not discrimination.

But not everyone is convinced.

“This is basically a reboot of the Muslim ban,” said Fatima Hassan of the ACLU. “It’s targeting people based on where they’re from—not what they’ve done.”

Human rights groups, tech leaders, and student organizations have also voiced concerns, warning that the new restrictions could hurt families, businesses, and America’s image abroad.

On the flip side, Trump’s base is eating it up. Many of his supporters believe the Biden administration has been too soft on immigration, and they see this as a strong move to “take back control.”

As the 2024 election heats up, it’s clear Trump is sticking to his “America First” playbook. Whether this new travel ban gains legal ground—or just fuels more political fire—remains to be seen.

One thing’s for sure: immigration is back at the center of U.S. politics, and Trump’s not backing down anytime soon.

What do you think about this action? Do you think he is going too far?
