Breaking: Social Media Activist VeryDarkMan Arrested in Abuja Over GTBank Dispute Abuja, Nigeria

Popular Nigerian social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), was arrested on Friday at a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch in Abuja. The arrest followed his public criticism of the bank over alleged unauthorized debits from his mother’s account.

VDM had visited the GTBank branch to address concerns about multiple deductions from his mother’s account, which he claimed were for loans she never took. After speaking with bank officials and police officers present, he was taken into custody. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the arrest, stating, “VDM was arrested by the police at GTB today. He spoke to them before being taken into custody. This is absolutely unacceptable. Demanding accountability is not a crime.”

Reports indicate that VDM was arrested alongside a friend, identified only as C Park, while his mother was left at the bank. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is reportedly involved in the case, although specific charges have not been disclosed.

The Nigerian Police Force has not issued an official statement regarding the arrest, leading to public speculation and concern over the circumstances surrounding VDM’s detention.

VDM’s arrest has sparked discussions on social media about the rights of individuals to demand accountability from financial institutions without fear of reprisal. Many have expressed support for VDM, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in the banking sector.

As the situation develops, further details are awaited regarding the legal proceedings and the involvement of the EFCC in the matter
