In a public statement titled “PDP Crisis: My Position,” Wike pointed fingers at Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, accusing him of causing deeper divisions within the party after the 2023 general elections.

Key Players Quit as PDP Crisis Worsens

Wike, a key figure in the PDP since 1998, described the party’s current challenges as a result of “dishonesty and betrayal” among top leaders.

He recalled several meetings meant to resolve the internal issues, including a G5 gathering in Lagos where he directly accused Makinde of not keeping to earlier agreements.

Another meeting at Bukola Saraki’s Abuja residence led to resolutions such as recognizing Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the PDP’s National Secretary (as ruled by the Supreme Court), dropping legal battles involving Rivers State, and sticking to previously made agreements.

However, Wike claims that Makinde, along with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, went against those decisions.

One major point of contention was their alleged attempt to replace Anyanwu with Ude Okoye as National Secretary.

This move reportedly caused the PDP’s zonal congress in Jos on May 24 to fail, after INEC rejected an invite signed by the Deputy National Secretary instead of the legally recognized Anyanwu.

Wike also accused Makinde of pushing a rejection letter against the PDP’s governorship candidate in Anambra, deepening the crisis further.

The conflict has sparked massive reactions online, especially on X. Influential users like Imranmuhdz shared Wike’s statement widely.

While Donpanacio hinted that this might be linked to Makinde’s rumored 2027 presidential bid, others like EfeOdafeU suggested the drama could be staged to weaken the PDP before the next elections.

Meanwhile, gbengagiwa_gg urged Makinde to rethink his actions to save the G5 alliance, which played a crucial role in the 2023 elections.

Wike’s move to step away from reconciliation talks shows just how divided the PDP has become.

His controversial support for President Bola Tinubu of the ruling APC in 2023, despite still being a PDP member, has drawn criticism and raised questions about his loyalty to the party.

Commentators like deluxe_k are now asking if Wike is truly committed to PDP’s future.

With the 2027 elections on the horizon, the PDP faces a serious leadership test.

Will the party fix its internal rifts or fall apart due to power struggles?

For now, Wike says he will keep fighting “until justice is done,” setting the stage for more political drama in Nigeria’s main opposition party.
