PDP Crisis: Wike Blames Makinde for Chaos in Explosive Statement

PDP Crisis: My Position by Nyesom Wike

The ongoing crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a dramatic turn on May 25, 2025, when Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, publicly blamed Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for deepening the party’s internal problems.

Nyewom Wike’s Opinion on PDP CRISIS

In a bold post titled “PDP CRISIS: MY POSITION” on his X account, Wike described Makinde as the “main cause” of the PDP’s troubles.

He accused the governor of breaking agreements made to stabilize the party after the 2023 general elections, where the PDP has since struggled with leadership disputes and lack of trust among top members.

Wike explained that things started going wrong after a G5 meeting in Lagos, where he confronted Makinde over unfulfilled promises.

He said more talks were held in Abuja at Bukola Saraki’s guest house with other key figures like Bala Mohammed, Umaru Fintiri, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

They all agreed to certain resolutions, including keeping Anyanwu as the National Secretary based on a Supreme Court ruling and dropping legal cases tied to Rivers State.

But according to Wike, Makinde and Enugu Governor Peter Mbah went against those decisions almost immediately.

Wike claimed that Makinde held a separate meeting with South-East PDP leaders and pushed for Ude Okoye to replace Anyanwu as National Secretary.

He also alleged that Makinde influenced the PDP Secretariat to appoint the Deputy National Secretary as acting secretary, ignoring the court-backed choice of Anyanwu.

This caused more confusion, including the rejection of official documents from Anyanwu and the party’s acting National Chairman. The crisis peaked on May 24, when INEC refused to attend the PDP zonal congress in Jos due to issues with the event’s legality.

Wike’s outburst has sparked intense debates online, with the topic “PDP faces deeper turmoil as Wike blames Makinde for party discord” trending.

Media outlets like Sahara Reporters, Channels TV, and Vanguard reported Wike’s decision to pull out of all PDP peace agreements, stating he would keep fighting until “justice is done.”

Social media reactions are mixed. Some users say Wike is exposing the PDP’s “deep cracks,” while others accuse him of working with the APC to weaken the opposition party.

This crisis shows how deeply divided the PDP is as it prepares for the 2027 elections.

Wike’s claims of betrayal by fellow leaders like Makinde and Bala Mohammed point to bigger issues with internal democracy and trust in the party.

As THISDAYLIVE reported, the Saraki-led reconciliation team’s support for Anyanwu had already upset many PDP governors, making unity even harder to achieve.

With Wike stepping away from peace talks, the future of the PDP looks shaky.

Whether the party can recover and offer Nigerians a real alternative in 2027 remains a big question.
